Lamar Morgan, MSW, ACSW
What should your client know about you?
I have extensive experience working as a medical social worker and social services clinician in various hospital settings, particularly on acute psychiatric units serving both adolescents and adults. My passion lies in supporting individuals facing challenges related to addiction and mental health. To deepen my expertise in this area, I obtained certification in substance use counseling, enabling me to better serve and advocate for those in need.
What is your approach to therapy?
I often utilize Motivational Interviewing as a therapeutic approach to assist clients in exploring and addressing their mixed feelings about making behavioral changes. Additionally, I frequently employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on helping clients recognize and modify negative thought patterns that influence their emotions and behaviors.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Overall, I will provide a safe and constructive space for clients to explore their issues, gain insight, and work towards positive change.
What was your path on becoming a therapist?
My journey to social work began at Los Medanos Community College with me earning my AA degree in psychology. After transferring to California State University East I completed my master’s degree in social work with a concentration in community mental health.
